Flim Flam! Franken

I found this awesome glitter at THE DOLLAR TREE CANADA! and had to whip up a franken ASAP. My heart was set on a pink/orange combo but this rediculously bright yellow flourecent glitter swayed me to whip up a 'Floam' like mani first.

I thought that the clear polish I usually use for fankens would dissolve the colour of the glitter but after two days there is still no bleeding......

I used a base of Wet n Wild White and applied 3 coats of my fanken 'Flim Flam!' This was a hungry glitter and even after  3 coats of TC it is still bumpy. I am excited to wip up at least 2 more of these with the neat glitter I found at THE DOLLAR TREE IN CANADA!!!!!

I found these awesome glitters at THE DOLLAR TREE CANADA! I am happy that The Dollar Tree stores showed up in the big city ( Wpg ) ..... Now if a Diaso would end up in my Provence somewhere I would never complain about my nail polish availability ever again!

I also picked up some beads and a few other crafty things.... no nail polish this time. They had a few displays of Billie Cosmetics nail polish which was awesome, but I already have evey single one!

These are matte neon glitter, I think I will make a green and purple mix next. The other package of glitter is a sheer easter-grass-like glitter which also did well in the clear nail polish base I use....

Always have tape on hand to seal up these little packages of glitter!!!!

I mixed up the yellow and blue ( this is supposed to be a good photo of the re-sealed glitter packs )

stuff i used ( check out that settling )

clockwise from thumb - 1 coat, 2 coats and 3 coats with blobby touch-ups

here is 1 coat - note that texture, this was still bumpy after 2 coats of TC

..... and a few more photos

A glitter sprinkle mani is when you apply polish and sprinkle loose glitter onto the wet polish. Then add a coat or two or top coat; I usually add a coat of clear first; then a coat of real top coat. Glitter sprinkle mani's are messy - so I do this over the sink and wash away any glitter that did not adhere to my wet nails.

Most of the time, the glitter sucks up multiple coats of TC and it never has that smoothe shiny finish - but the holographic effect usually makes up for a lack of a high shine. One of the best top oats I have tried for thick glitter effects such as this has been China Glaze Fast Forward, it smells terrible but it does dry fast and it does level out an un-even surface such as this.

This glitter sprinkle mani is over Wet n Wild Eggplant frost except my thumbs. I applied a very thick coat of Nailene Top Coat, lightly sprinkled on the purple holographic glitter and waited 5 minutes then gently pressed down on  the glitter to have all the glitter pieces laying flat, then added another coat of TC, and another coat when that was dry.

♥ Pink Holo Glitterpocalypse ♥

Pink holo glitterpocalypse.

So basically to do this, I just applied a clear coat of polish and sprinkled the holo glitter over it. Twice. I made sure to use a clear polish that I would not mind getting glitter into; becuase whenever I do a glitterpocalypse there is always glitter everywhere. I also layed out a piece of wax paper to catch all the glitter, and even vaccumed when my nails were fullly dry.

Back to the how to. I applied a coat of clear polish then sprinkled the glitter onto it, when it was beginning to dry I GENTLY used a soft fluffy make-up brush to press the pieces of glitter into the polish as well as to brush away glitter stuck to my fingertips and around my nails.. When that was dry, I applied another coat of clear polish, then sprinkled on some more glitter. I gently used the pad of my finger to squish the glitter into the drying polish before I applied a top coat. I ended up using 2 thick coats of Nailene Top Coat, and before I put the brush back in to the bottle= I wiped it off on the wax paper to ensure that no glitter particles made their way into the top coat bottle. Even though I have specially reserved this bottle of Top Coat for manis like this, I still made sure no glitter found it's way into the bottle.

So there were  many many coats of polish involved here. I applied this over a previous mani, becuase I was taking these false nails off shortly after this - and THERE IS NO FRIGGEN WAY I WOULD WRESTLE WITH THIS GLITTER TRYING TO REMOVE IT.

I don't think I would add this much embellishment to my nails and then try to remove it - whenever I wear a heavy glitter polish I try to coordinate it with the removal of my false nails..... and I hardly ever wear glitter on my toes anymore - even though I know you can do the tin foil thing. I am being alot kinder to my nails and cuticles!!!

So if your thinking about doing a mega glitter look like this - do it on false nails that will run their course and be easily removed  ( or you can gently remove them by soaking in water for a little while ) or snip them down and soak your nails in acetone. Just apply Vaseline or a barrier creme to your finger tips before either type or removal♥

Anyhoo- here is a few more photos - I am looking forward to using the deeper purple holographic glitter in this package. I  found this at Micheal's craft store ( on sale of course $1.39 ) just after Easter time.  I barely put a dent in the small package of pink glitter I used for this glitterpocalypse. I feel I get a better glitter pay-off by doing the sprinkle thing, than using an actual glitter polish.
