Swanky Fishnet Nails

I have seen this on the interwebs a few times and decided to try it out myself. I'll call my first attempt a success = I don't think it would be possible for me to get crisp lines with this. Next time I try this it will be a base for some other type of nail art, using similar shades and possibly nail stickers.....

The base colour is a lovely polish I got from my mom that I have named 'Swanky'. I used Claire's Evergreen and Claire's Emerald City for the sponging. The fishnet material  was some leftover fabric that I used for Christmas Decorations.

2 coats of 'Swanky'

Below -  The base colour of this polish is a murky burgundy, but it ends up being a rich Forest green with alot of micro shimmer..... how is this possible? The top is 3 coats and the bottom is 1 coat.

Suprise! Pinky french mani

I very rarely choose pink shades like this, but I have had these 2 polishes for a while and wanted to test their application and wear.

When I first started buying these Sweet Serenity polishes from the Dollar Rama - they had the consistency of lumpy Elmer's school glue, never dried and had a weird smell. however I have since purchased 4 new sets and am very happy with the quality. This is a lovely metallic pink that was good in 3 coats, application and dry time were fine. these come ion sets of 3 for $1.25 CAD and Dollar Rama has new shades every so often.

I stretched this mani with a funky French using a no name shimmery polish form the Dollar Tree USA, and LA Colors metallic pink stripe polish

It soooooooo girly - I started to add glitter to my pinky but thought this mani could hold its own without glitter

.....and here is just a weird artsy shot that I thought was cool

and finally, here is another pretty pink that I had worn but never posted. This is from a polish set I got from my Mom at Christmas. None of these polishes have names. This was very similar in formula and application tot he Sweet Serenity polish above

escándalo!!!!!!

Yes, the polish I am wearing is called Scandalous Blue Glitter, but the real scandal is that my beautiful hand model hands have been scrubbing &cleaning, then packing and un-packing, then scrubbing and cleaning. I moved house mid- December.

Christmas eve was the first time I applied artificial nails since December 12th = I did paint my real nails in a festive glass-fleck red Sally Hansen polish -  But it wasn't the same without my beloved falsies! Even worse was looking at everyone's fabulous Christmas manicures on their blogs, then glancing down at my own torn and tattered digits.

Hopefully everyone had a safe and happy holiday & Santa ( or your families ) were generous with nail polish riches. My Mom & Dad surprised me with one of these polish & Implement kits from The Color Institute by Markwins - the same company that makes Wet n Wild Products. If you are in Canada and head out for Boxing Day ( or Boxing Week Shopping ) keep your eyes peeled for this brand because all of their nail polish collections were AWESOME this year! ( found at shoppers drug mart and Zellers HBC stores )

Okay; onto to my Christmas Eve Mani. This is a lovely sheer polish from NYC that is Available at Target stores in the USA for 99 cents. However I found this in a 2 pack at The Dollar Tree ( also in the USA ) Here is have layered it over Sinful Colors Mint Apple. On my RING nail is the old skool version of this same polish ( neat huh? ) but is is very different from the modern version. While it is still sheer, it has a lovely azure flash with sharp silver flecks.

Nightly Nails has some great photos of this polish layered over black HERE. The NYC Brand has several gorgeous layering polishs that are very inexpensive, but mostly available in the USA

Also I am aware that this is not very Christmas-ey but whenever I am pressed for time I automatically reach for fast drying pastel teal and mint shades.

the old skool version of the above polish on my ring nail

This photo is from an older mani -  Sinful Colors Mint Apple ( whatever that means...... mint apple? )

NYC Scandalous Blue Glitter old and older version

L-new R- old

finally, I topped this off with one of the polish's from my X-mas presents from my parents, a lovely gold hued iridescent glitter. Just 1 coat.

If you hit up boxing day sales there is some every pretty polish in this kit, I will line them all up tomorrow and get bottle shots on-line as soon as my lazy vacationing *ss rolls out of bed = plus it has a polish dryer that I am totally looking forward to drying my toe nails in!

~ Thanks Mom & Dad ~

I cant seem to find hi-res photos from SDM but I think that these Color Institute polish sets might be 1/2 price this week, I am sad I wont make it there to pick up a few of these bargains because the QUO  18 mini set with the ORLY dupes is 50% off, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Blogs & NYC Bakcstage Brown, Color Workshop "Pink"

its a bright shiny copper - not brown

This is one of the three new NYC polish's from their newest limited edition collection. Backstage Brown is a lovely copper shade, like a brand new penny; so I am not sure why they are calling it Backstage Brown. This was 3 coats - it dries fast and was easy to apply - N.Y.C. polish's are always a dependable polish for me.

Sorry I am late in adding this list of new blogs. I am addicted to another forum-type website that starts with an 'R' that I would never introduce you to because it is addictive and the biggest time sucker behind nail polish blogs.

I drove myself bonkers trying to figure out how to change some blogs that are saved as 'RSS feeds' and to have them appear in proper order on my blogroll..... Here are a few new blogs ~

rainbowhands

 er-nails

 steffels

 nevorpurify's nail art

oh me oh my oh me

 hedonism-ltd.

 im obsessed with nails

 lauras lacquers

 sannuk

 gold specknails

Backstage Brown.... I guess 'Backstage Copper' would'nt be as catchy

and this is a lovely pink shimmery-flecky polish from the Color Workshop that I found at the Dollar Tree in the USA -

I call this hand model pose 'The Lextard'

Even though I despise these big clunky polish caps, there are many beautiul nail polish's in bottles like these, and quite a few companies are using them..... so I better get used to it! I did'nt like the Sally Hansen X-treme wear polish caps when they first came out either...... but I managed.

All three of these polish's from The Color Workshop were sheer, the rose/pink colour and the apricot colour have a lovly shimmery fleck, though it looks like a foil finish in the photo above - I think these are too sheer to be called a foil finish polish. I snagged a few packages of these for franken bases...... @ .33 cents each - I should have bought more ( how many times have I written that/ said that in my life? )

..... and I added a coat of Hanna Pinktanna, a holographic micro glitter in a pink jelly base.

a fuzzy picture to show off that holo glitter ( no TC )
